PARTY

No...this isn't an invite to a post Halloween Party. Those of you expecting to gorge yourselves with leftover candy form last night...sorry! The question for today is...Does Political Party Affiliation Matter in City (town) Politics? We rarely, if never, hear anyone making reference to their preference. Are we just to small a sac of potatoes to care about those lofty ideals? What do you think? It's Your Dime!

Just a note here to inform everyone that the contest for the official name for "The Nonperticipation People" has ended...The secret committee of judges has met on the 4th floor of NARH, and finding that a suffient number were present to form a quarum and having taken enough meds to get an elephant stoned...voted. The Winner is...da snoop! His winning entry..."The Shadow People" will from this point on be there official name...He may pick up his prize...an all expence paid one way ticket to Mars...any time during a blue moon at the city dump. Honerable mention went to several others but we won't mention them here. Thank you all for your entries and perticipation...southview

Party affiliation means nothing in vity politics. It makes no difference because the common cause is the city's well being, not some platform or agenda.

Agreed, and I would take that one step further and say that it should NOT be incorporated into the process. We have all seen what partisan politics can do to the political system. I think it best for the city if there is a blend from all slants.

To support an issue or a person based solely on the party they belong to is ludicrous at any level of government.

As for my grand prize, I would like to reach across the partisan divide and in a show of good faith, and donate it to George Bush. I'll have to consult with Mr. Delay to see how bogus campaign contributions can be made to look legitimate. The exact day and time will be leaked by Scooter and denied by McCellan. Mr. Rove is working on spinning this announcement into a victory in the War on Terror. I'm not sure how it happened, but Haliburton was sole bidder and therefore awarded the contract for this mission. I have asked Brownie to look over the details to ensure a safe trip for Dubya. I tried to consult with Cheney, but I couldn't find him and the keys to the bunker are missing???

I agree also...We are to small a turnap patch to have to worry about the cabbage patch... da snoop...George said he will meet you on a bench downtown and accept the gift!...southview

It used to be said that there is no "Republican" or "Democratic" way to pave a street---I'm not sure that that is correct---the Democratic way would be to have city employees (all union members) do the paving- the Republican way would be to contract it out to a private contractor----that being said---I like a non-partisan system---it allows you to vote the person- not the party---so much of partisan politics deal with State and National (even international_ issues that are not directly connected to city governance---of course some cities --even small towns have a partisan system---I experienced that in Wilbrahona over 20 years ago---it was not pretty---exacrebating the issue beyond running on party lables-- the clerk- collector- treasurer- the board of Assessors that set the tax rates were all elected-----was difficult to manage-----just my thought on an intereesting question--chbpod

Did the sky fall? Where you able to get up okay? Did you have to fight off mobs of kids from Conte trying to spray paint them or climb all over them? Don't tell me you spent some extra time on Main Street and felt refreshed enough to actually do more shopping, please no.

I have a breathing problem and it is about time someone thought about people like myself that find it hard to walk any distance without a rest stop...The older people seem to be very apreciative also...A place to rest, a place for the old codgers to sit and gab, and a life saver for me...more benches.....southview

I appreciate the fact you have a breathing problem. My grandfather lived with emphysema. But to openly defy not only the Planning Board, but also the Mayor, does not help his cause. These are 2 incidents that will stay in the voters minds. He may pick up a few votes from the crowd that is always talking about benches, but he'll lose more than that from the people who see it as breaking the city ordinances.

Ilike benches- I need benches-- do it legally--- chbpod

Both the General Store and The Bean --had to get a Planning Boatd OK for outside seating on the side walk---simple enough to do-- with probably the proviso that they be taken in at night------CJT's benches do not fit this scenario----but you have to admit- dear old Dad-- I did smoke him out of is hole----chbpod

I don't think the voters will give one hoot whether a planning board ordinance was broken come voting time. I think the only one who will remember will be JB. But if it is played right, I still think he'll get a chuckle out of it.
