"SCHOOLS and TAXES"

Ah.....a citizens favorite topic. Of course the whole School Budget has gotten nuts. Reality is that each year the School Budget demands more and more of the City resources. At what point does it take all the resources? It is going to happen at some point. All a City can do is cut other services to the bone and raise taxes. What will happen when the City can't meet it's obligation to the School Budget? And it will happen at some point. The Mayor is facing the beginnings of that dilemma at the present time. He has no other alternative than to raise taxes to pay for the School System. The State is trying to wash their hands of local problems and trying to keep as much money as they can for their own financial problems. Times are getting real desperate out there folks! So how to help the Mayor solve the dilemma?
1. Close all public schools and go to the semi-public/private pay your own way schools?
2. Rely on Charter Systems and semi-Charter Schools, as the Mayor was suggesting.
3. Turn all schools over to the State and let them deal with the problem?
4. Tax people to the limit of the law to pay for the School System.
What advice would you give to the Mayor and the School Board to help them solve the growing crisis?
Eventually the State will have to handle the School Systems of the cities and towns, people are not going to be able to pay for the cost to provide schooling for their children.
What do you think..... It's YOUR DIME?

Romney's budget isn't law, yet. The mayor seems to think it is doa while Billings says that it is likely to pass. I tend to agree with the mayor. The Dem controlled legislature, for no other reason, will not give Romney any victory that he can take on the campaign trail.

That said, NA schools are more efficient than most in the state. Sqeezing more out of the exisiting budgets might be extremely detrimental to the health of the system. NA's tax base is slowly getting stronger, but for now, the state aid is crucial. I think that raising holy-hell on Beacon Hill is the best way to go.

(I hope you're listening Rep. Bosley and Senator Nucioforo)

Greg could be correct- as well as the Mayor----but the amount of Ed $ is increased and the overwhelming majority of districts will get more under the new formular--question is are these school districts represented by an overwhelming majority of legislators? Do some legislators represent a a legislative district
where the majority of school districts will receive more money- even though a few will receive less? I s the mood of the Democratic controlled legilature more anti-Romney than it is pro-local school increases under the new formula?? Very political to say the least. One thing that baffles me is the Romney view that Charter schools are PUBLIC schools--in the case of NA- we have lost 100 students to BaRT---and we get penalized for "losing" students--the BaRT will still get the $6 grand/ student and the NA system gets further penalized on enrollment losses-- which has gone to a "public" school----I am boggled--or is it bloggled---chbpod
