WHAT ARE YOUR WISHES FOR THE NEW YEAR?

Another New Year! They just seem to keep coming, and coming, and coming! Lets start off the blog year by posting what YOU would like to see for our City. You all have your own little wish list, so share it with us. Mine is BENCHES on main street for us tired old codgers and codgets to rest on. What are yours?.....

Mine would be a movie theater in the downtown and one you don't need to where a rain coat while watching the movie and it is raining outside.

I don't know how the multi-plex beats the board of health. If that where a restaurant (and they do serve food of sorts) they would be shut down in a heart beat. Must be because they are the only game in town and city doesn't want to be without a movie theater.

Will they have nude dancing? :~)

I'd like to see an increased positive attitude about our city, and an increase in attendance at the SteepleCats games this summer.

Reality is not a problem for me...I just want the city and the SteepleCats to succeed.

I would like to see the Steeple cats find a new playpen. They have done nothing but cause havoc with youth sports in this city. They came in and pushed everyone else out. Now the city has to pay millions of dollars to build new places for the youth sports. I just can believe that the steeple cats have brought that kind of money into the city to justify the special attention they get.

But prove me wrong, can anyone list 3 positive effects the Steeple Cats have had on NA?

Let me jump in on this one! The Steeple Cats are not a bad thing for the City, but where the problem arises is when a private enterprise takes over a public property. Now I have herd, and this is only hearsay mind you, that people have been chased off the ball field. Why? It does not belong to the Steeple Cats, it belongs to the people of the City... and if someone wants to play catch with their son or hit a few balls around, or have a game and the field is empty then they should be able to do so! No person or enety has the right to limit use of a public facility if it is not being abused. It was built for the public and the public should have use of it. If the city wants to build a field for their team then so be it, but not to hijack a public facility for private use. That borders on the criminal and I think the courts would agree!

CJT the field holds how many fans - 1000? If more than 2% where from out of town you could knock me over with a feather.

National Attention?? Where, when?? The Transcript bearly covers the games.

#3 well, that's worth it for you.

The Steeple Cats were nothing more than one-upsmenship for JB over the Pittsfield mayor at the time.

Hey I could be wrong, but someone please show me where the Steeple Cats have provided anything close to the revenue they have cost the city. Show me the cost of maintaining the field vs the ticket sales. Show me the boost in the economy vs the cost to relocate the youth sports. Who pays for the rent-a-cops at the games? Who pays for the upkeep of the parking lot?

Da snoop...i have to side with you on this one...If it doesn't inhance the city bottom line, is nothing more than a drain on our resorces and use of City Personal for private use and limits public use of public property...what is it's purpose? Let me see the books that show me the taxpayers are at least breaking even. Again more public land being used for private enterprise at the expence of the tax payer of North Adams. When is this foolishness going to end?

The 'Cats don't hire any rent a cops or police, except for the 4th of July game....they hold the league record for attendance for a single game at 6,120 fans last July 4th...Just over 30,000 fans came out last summer as a total...built the new concession, and gave the Babe Ruth league a concession in it at no charge...donated $1,500 to the Babe Ruth league at the beginning of the season...hold a summer long baseball camp at the YMCA for youth...takes care of all maintenance at Joe Wolfe Field, at no cost to the city...donated the new scoreboard last season...before the schedule is set, Babe Ruth, American Legion, and Drury games that may be played there are first, and the 'Cats work around that...

Andrew Etman said...

Donated $2,200 to groups in the city that helped out in the concession stand...installed the new backstop and screening for the grandstand...along with the PA system...

OK, I bow to my ignorance on the situation... but what about public access to public property? Why can't I use the field for my personal use? Just because they toss out a few crumbs to the City doesn't give the City or anyone that oversears the field the right to limit it's use if not ocupied. It is still public property! Do you know what that term means?

Andrew Etman said...

I'm trying to find out for sure, but I recall something about the team leases Joe Wolfe, or at least pays a fee for each game and practice time...if the field is unused and open, and someone asked you to leave, that isn't right...

Andrew Etman said...

Like I said, I'm not sure...but I am trying to get a hold of someone who would know...cool badge, but cooler polo shirt...

Southview said...

I have no gripe if the field can be used by the public if their is nothing else going on....But then why spend monies creating another complex that the public preceives as an alternate use field and not welcome on the other? And people have been tossed from using the Joe Wolf field, explain that ?

"before the schedule is set, Babe Ruth, American Legion, and Drury games that may be played there are first, and the 'Cats work around that... " I know for a fact that this statement is absolutely false. Babe Ruth had to move their whole season to accomodate the "Cats" which affected little league. Drury and McCann games have been moved or re-scheduled because of the "Cats" consistently. Summer youth soccer has had to relocate because teams that would have used Wolfe are now using fields that they would have used. Pee Wee football displaced.

Who paid to have the field re-soded and the dirt in the infield completely replaced (because it was the wrong mix of ingredients for their league) prior to the "Cats" playing their first game??? Who cuts the grass?? Who paints the outfield wall? Who paid to have both parking lots totally redone? Who picks up the garbage down the street and in the parking lot?

"built the new concession, and gave the Babe Ruth league a concession in it at no charge" - seems only fair since they took over the one babe ruth was maintaining. Score board was probably paid for by Coca - Cola or Pepsi or whoever's name is on it.

6000 fans is a league record - how many were there for the fireworks. What is the average attendance? Tickets are what - $4? How much extra is there in that price that they can afford all these items of goodwill?

I wouldn't be against the "Cats" if they didn't push everyone else around. Concerts at the park, free movie night other good uses of the space.

It would not surprise me if, at a time when the field was wet, that anyone on it would be booted off. Protecting their turf (in more ones than one).

As is four comments on wanting a new mayor.

Why are their rent a cops patrolling the field if their isn't a cats game going on? Do they also patrol the Porches....I'm sorry, the City playground parking lot on River street? You may be able to inhance the city coffers by ticketing those illegle parkers that are utalizing the Porches....Sorry,... the City playground.

Andrew Etman said...

The 'Cats never used the old concession Babe Ruth had...just the bathrooms...Year one was under a tarp...players mow, and rake the infield..scoreboard was paid for in full by the 'Cats, no sponsor name on it..I think attendance was around 1,200 average...as a non-profit, they have to show a zero balance on the books..the outfield "wall" is a chain link fence, with strips of webbing woven into it, no paint...bmm, you might be taken seriously if you had your own life, and didn't keep attacking people. No one is listening...The only patrolling is done by security paid for by the 'Cats after a couple incidents of vandalism, and break ins to the concession...

Anonymous said...

Do the players really mow and rake the field?? So . . . if you played for the "Cats" your equipment bag would include a couple gloves, a bat or two and a weed wacker?? I guess I stand corrected. But I still don't see any value in having them in NA.

Andrew Etman said...

So, do I post bmm's comments, and add THIS IS NOT TRUE next to each one?

Andrew Etman said...

Want me to post it over on the Blazer Blog? As far as the electric, just tell me how I can eliminate the problem. I already turn almost everything else off. I'm not being a wise guy, I just am at my wits end with that stupid breaker. Is it something I'll have to live with, or can a bigger breaker be put in without it being a fire hazard?

That must be it-- I'm bald because I often blow a fuse---makes sense to me--------chbpod

Andrew Etman said...

Alrighty then....thanks. Our forefathers should have thought ahead...hehehehe...I nlike older homes, but sometimes they are a pain in the backside....

Andrew Etman said...

Let me ask all of you....what the hell did I ever do to any of you? Piss in your Wheaties?

Andrew Etman said...

I had to moderate comments at my blog because people like bmm were trying to use the comments to tell people I don't pay rent, my electricity, child support, collect Social Security, and even goofy stuff like I have a rentway computer. And they do it behind initials or anonymous postings. As far as I can tell, I never did anything to them, so why the hostilities?

Andrew Etman said...

As far as proof, I'll be glad to show anyone who wants to see...and the same goes for bmm...show the proof, then come back.

Andrew Etman said...

Maybe my blog wasn't the proper forum to air my complaints....we've all done stuff we think twice about later...but I am at my wits' end as to what to do. Normal processes don't seem to be working.

Andrew Etman said...

That's a 3 year old record that was satisfied when the house sold. Why bring this up? Do you have a vested interest in it? The back support accrued when I was hospitalized and out of work for 6 months. But it's all gone now.

Andrew Etman said...

That's a cool website. I didn't realize so many people owed municipal taxes, had liens on property, owed support, and lost houses. Thanks. I don't feel so bad now. I recommend that everyone go to it and put your name in, and see what the world can. So, now that you proved one thing, stop by and I'll prove my allegations.
