"SOMETHING FOR A RAINY DAY"

Without getting all philosophical and long winded, I pose a question to you.....Who Is GOD?

Though I am inclined to answer Frank Sinatra off the cuff . . .

Who is God? A mythical all powerful existence used within the Christian mythology. Much like Zeus and Odin, God is a god, but one of the things that makes him different is that he is technically a monotheist existance - although technically is the important word there. With the inclusion of cherubim and angels and the Devil and demons and saints, the Christian religion begins to resemble many pantheistic religions of old. However, all these supernatural beings aren't presented with the same omniscience as God and though they have fantastical powers, they derive their powers from the central figure of God and not of their own being, so that is a sort of technical reasoning to the mythology that makes them not quite deities and, therefore, technically keeps the religion monotheistic.

However, Christianity does take a turn from mythologies of old by anthromorphosizing the God figure. Originally, in the hands of the Jewish religion, God was only in the most figurative way human-like, but with the inclusion of Jesus into the mythology, God becomes as human-like in appearance as Zeus - and Jesus is particularly reminiscent of Hercules, the demi god son of Zeus.

As compared to his fellow gods, though, God doesn't have quite as much to do in the stories, usually working in the background and convincing humans to do things to progress the narrative of the myths. On that level, you really can't tell, within context of the stories, who God is supposed to be and to my knowledge, no one has ever tackled the notion of God's motivation, background, origin, heritage, profession, standing, or anything that presents him as less than cryptically mysterious - which means that, story-wise, there is a lot more to build on there than, say, Tarzan, but perhaps not as much as Sherlock Holmes.

But since God is a fictional character, that's the best I can do in saying who he is by how he is expressed in the text. As far as "a god" goes in reality, that is really an old model and not very applicable. If there is a creator or a binding force, there is no solid evidence of such an existence or apparition in the universe and, therefore, anything I would have to say about it would be pure speculation.
