WINTER IS HERE...HEATING vs EATING

It looks like it is going to be long winter. With the fuel prices being on the border of thiefery a lot of people living in our City are in real trouble. I'm not just talking about people that need assistance, but all of us. Are we looking into the face of disaster this winter, where you will have to make a decision whether to spend your money on food or fuel? What's your opinion?...IT's YOUR DIME!

I'm in that boat, Southview. The cheapest I found oil last week was 2.369, at Oil Express. I bought 125 gallons. It was all I could afford last week. By the end of the winter, I'll have 101 ways to cook Ramen noodles if this keeps up. (10 for a dollar, gotta love it)

The only way I can prepare is that we have turned down the thermostat to 64 degrees when we are home, and 60 degrees when we are not. We have new windows (thermopane) and purchased a couple of energy saver ceramic heaters. I wish I could put a woodstove in, but the neighbor next door (duplex) just switched over to propane, and you can't have wood and propane on the same chimney or something. Drag out the sweaters and sweatshirts, and if all else fails, cuddle up next to your signifigant other.

A pellet stove is vented right through your wall---however, I recall reading a recent article- that there is a big demand for them already this year---chbpod
