" LIFE "

Just another beautiful day in the woodlands of North Adams. Autumn is most people's favorite time of the year, at least up in our hills. A time of the year that everyone should get away from the humdrum of everyday and pack up the family and venture out into our pristine woods. A day hike with the family to our "Cascade Falls" or just meandering on one of our gazillion trails to nowhere. A basket lunch while sitting among natures brilliancy and breathing in the crisp Autumn air is about as close to Heaven that some of us will get.

For the more hardy, a sleep over in the woods at this time of the year is like being allowed to romp with the Angels. You can't find anything on this Earth more peaceful and restful, than wakening up to a fresh brewing pot of coffee, wafting through the quiet morning Autumn air with aromatic delight, and add this to a cast iron skillet full of sizzling smoked bacon and fresh potatoes and eggs, fried just to perfection over a camp fire.....You truly do have Heaven on Earth! (Guys... this is where you shine as the chief extraordinaire!...and give the little lady a break.)
So..... when we leaving? Kids welcome, the more the merrier.....after all if we don't show them the wonders of nature...Who Will?

Speaking of which, we almost went searching for your cache the other day, but we screwed up and forgot to bring the coordinates to pipe in! Another time I guess.

We took our kids camping the first summer out of the womb (this was when we lived in the big city) - though hiking was a little harder, as soon as they could toddle, though . . . don't understand people who don't take their kids out hiking - it's free entertainment for the kids, it tires them out so they sleep, it fills time even after the hike is over because they can take what they see and learn about it later at home, and it gives them a healthy respect for the idea that there are worlds and worlds beyond them. The woods were an entry drug for my kids' passion for science, actually.

Agreed, I was just up in the woods out my way day before yesterday - what a site. The problem I always run into is lugging that damn generator up the mountain so I can plug in the TV, hair dryer, automatic coffee maker, laptop, bug zapper, and microwave oven. How do you get around this Southview? :-)

noop...I usually bring along a portable windmill with a telescoping base. "The Popele Pocket Producer" $19.95 at wally mart. :~)

John...Happy to know you are geocaching. It is one of the greatest ways to go hiking, mainly because it adds a goal to the hike and because it is just plain fun. Because of health problems, due to the ravages of living life in the fast lane and trying to burn the candle at both ends and the perception that youth lasts forever, I haven't been able to participate lately. I had to abandon the one I had at Cascade Falls and a third one I was going to place at the old farm house along the "Bellows Pipe Trail" (042*39'02.27"N - 073*08'59.98"W) I think those are the cords? That is a nice easy walk for the kids, and the old folk, ;~) Lots of history. Also a 4th one at the cemetery just off the road to Greylock on the south side. (042*40'22.76"N - 073*08'58.57"W) In that general area. So if you are thinking of setting out your own cache these are good spots to consider. Great hikes, great woods, great views, great history, and best of all great fun for everyone!

I hid a cache in Training Ground for Democracy. Good luck finding it in the landfill.

Greg.....I think I found it... just as it was going into the schreadder.

That's shredder! Not schreadder. A "Schreadder" is a garment warn by New Yorkers with a Brooklyn accent.
